A man from Florida was arrested for planning to bomb Target stores - he wanted Syracuse, NY to be the start and somewhere in Florida to be the end - too bad he was off target with his accomplice choice....
Mark C. Barnett, 48, of Ocala, was arrested after his accomplice, a known felon and confidential informant, turned over the explosive devices to ATF agents. The purpose of his attack was to lower stock prices so he could afford to buy them and then wait for the share price to climb back up.
According to KXAN Barnett created at least ten explosive devices, disguised as food item packaging, and delivered them to the source on February 9.
He then asked the person to place them on store shelves from New York to Florida. He also provided the person with a bag of gloves, a mask, and a license plate cover to disguise the person’s identity.
Barnett was charged for violating his terms of probation - possession of a firearm (destructive device) affecting commerce by a previously convicted felon.
Thankfully this plot ended before it started.
