Indonesia surpasses China in cyber attacks

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 10/17/2013 11:31 AM [ comments Comments ]

According to the latest stats from content delivery and security firm Akamai, Indonesia has had the dubious honor of supplanting China as the number one source of attack traffic globally. Indonesia accounted for 38 per cent of the world’s attack traffic.

China, which had been the number one source for attacks has dropped one percent point to 33 per cent.
The US showed a decline – from 8.3 per cent to 6.9 per cent.

However, according to the report, it is possible that cybercriminals are just using compromised machines in Indonesia through which to route attacks.

The Asia-Pacific is by far the world’s worst offender, now accounting for a mammoth 79 per cent of observed attacks compared to around 10 per cent each for Europe and the Americas.
