Islamic State releases data on 100 US military personnel

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 03/23/2015 05:36 AM [ comments Comments ]

The Islamic State has posted the names and addresses of 100 US military personnel with the message that supporters of the cause should seek them out and kill them.

A U.S. defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said on Saturday: "I can't confirm the validity of the information, but we are looking into it."

"We always encourage our personnel to exercise appropriate OPSEC (operations security) and force protection procedures," the official added.

The "Islamic State Hacking Division" said it had hacked military servers, databases and emails and made the info public so that "lone wolf" attackers can kill them.

However, authorities have said that the info could be found in public records, residential address search sites and social media.

The self-described "Hacking Division" claimed that "with the huge amount of data we have from various different servers and databases, we have decided to leak 100 addresses so that our brothers in America can deal with you".
