This new charging system from BioLite provides potable water along with a 10W charge. KettleCharge is powered by thermoelectric technology which takes steam and converts it to usable electricity - a bonus if you are camping and would like a nice drink of water sans any giardia while you browse ways not to attract bears or mountain lions.
It can also be used during everyday life - power outages, natural disasters will have no bearing on whether or not you can keep all your devices powered up.
The Thermoelectric Generator [TEG], located on the base of the KettleCharge, uses a difference in temperature to produce electricity. This comes from having a hot side and a cold side within the device. The Kettle filled with water serves as the cold side; the flame of your stove in contact with the baseplate is the hot side.
As you bring the water to a boil, electricity is produced and sent to the Power Handle, leaving you with potable water and 10W of usable power – and you can do a lot with 10W.
You can pick one up for a mere $149.95 over at the BioLite site - the unit will ship out in September.
