LulzSec members sentenced in the UK

Posted by: TimW on 05/17/2013 03:13 PM [ comments Comments ]

Four members of the LulzSec hacker group were sentenced after a two day trial. Ryan Cleary, known as "Ryan" and "Viral" online, was given a two year and eight month sentence. Although he was not a full member of the group, he allowed them to use his large-scale botnet. Child pornography, [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_Pornography#Typology]level 3 and 4, was also found on his computer and he will face charges for that at a later date.

Ryan Ackroyd, who claimed to be a 16 year old female known as "Kayla", one of the most talented hackers of the group, was sentenced to 30 months in jail.

Jake Davis, also known as "Topiary", the voice of the group, now 20, was sentenced to 24 months in a juvenile detention center. He must serve at least half of his sentence and will be on probation for the remainder.

Mustafa Al-Bassam, an 18-year-old, received the least sentence with only 20 months suspended and 300 hours of community service. This, because he was a minor when active with the group.

Hector Xavier Monsegur, arrested in New York, provided info about other members, who were then arrested on 6 March 2012 in an organized international operation.
