Adrien Brody purchased an old castle just 20 minutes from my home in Upstate NY 7 years ago with plans to restore it.
While this might not be unusual we don’t have a lot of castles here and the old place has a lot of history. It began as a horse barn and has been many other things including an amusement park and might club.
But, recent generations will remember it most from Halloween. Locals from all around would bring their kids to this scary place and trick or treat finding each stop with a riddle. There were games to play, rides around the castle and if you dared, you could check out the haunted house in the basement. Nothing says haunted like an old castle basement!
We always admired the building but it was in horrible shape with many areas, including everything upstairs, blocked off. Brody has been restoring it for 7 years and although our children are now grown and we will miss it at Halloween it’s nice to see someone restore this unique building.
Here's a short teaser:
Here's the official synopsis from SXSW:
"In 2007, Academy Award winning actor Adrien Brody fell in love with a partially burned stone barn, reminiscent of an old European castle, hidden in the woods of upstate New York. Looking to fulfill a life-long dream of having a place in the country, he went out on a limb and purchased the enchanting but dilapidated structure. Adrien took charge of an elaborate restoration of the property spanning seven years, transforming it into a magical place to share with family and friends. Teaming up with filmmaker Kevin Ford, Adrien created a personal cinematic record of the journey. Stone Barn Castle is a portrayal of the pursuit of dreams and the distance one must travel to achieve them."
Good luck Mr. Brody.
