After watching the interview of witnesses on scene you get the sense that this really isn't the most bizarre incident that occurs on the boardwalk.
Police were called to the boardwalk in Venice Beach, CA., for reports of an "irate man with chainsaw" walking up and down the boardwalk. Police began to canvass the area for the suspect, asking people if they had seen the chainsaw toting man - many thought it was a joke.
The police were able to locate the suspect and a brief standoff ensued - they had their guns drawn and pointed at the unnamed man who was initially refusing to drop the chainsaw.
According to CBS Los Angeles, a local shop owner saw what was happening and whipped out her camera to shoot video. Viviane Robertson, who’s been doing business on the boardwalk for 20 years, says police had their guns drawn and were yelling at the man to drop the chainsaw.
“He didn’t drop it and he got closer and [officers] actually kicked the chainsaw out of his hands,” one witness said. “I keep telling myself: In Venice, you never know what you’re going to see. And every time I think I’ve seen it all, something else happens.”
The man was arrested without further incident.
