As promised, Microsoft has now made their new flight simulator “Microsoft Flight” available for free download and play. You can play in cooperative mode, earn achievements, download additional content and more.

“The sky's the limit! Now anyone can enjoy the fun, freedom and adventure of flight. Feel the power at your fingertips as you take to the skies and launch into thrilling missions and exciting challenges over the free-to-play Big Island of Hawaii. Take off today and fly into the ever-expanding world of Microsoft Flight.

Whether you’re at 20,000 feet or just inches above the surface, you’ll experience visually stunning and realistic real-word landscapes with authentic weather patterns, terrain, landmarks and flight physics. See the world from inside a highly detailed and accurate cockpit, or zoom out and fly using the exterior airplane view.”

Minimum hardware is:
• CPU: Dual Core 2.0 GHz
• GPU: 256 MB card capable of shader 3.0 (DX 9.0c compliant)
• HD: 10 GB hard drive space
• OS : WinXP SP3 or newer
• RAM: 2.0GB

A 627 KB installer will get you downloading the entire 1.5 GB game. At this time, downloads are pretty slow most likely due to this large release as well as the Windows 8 Consumer Preview also released Wednesday.

Take a look at some of the gameplay videos:
