Microsoft: Start Menu will not be released until Windows 9

The Start Menu - a little orb sitting patiently in the bottom left hand corner of your desktop with all the little goodies we love and need - the same little orb that was unceremoniously kidnapped from us....millions screamed for the safe return of our precious orb to no avail! ;)

It seems that the kidnappers (Microsoft) are caving in to our demands and are set to liberate the beloved Start Menu within the major April 2015 release. Originally some insiders thought that the Start Menu might be finished in time for the second Windows 8.1 update. They were obviously wrong.

According to Geek, with the Windows 9 release looming, Microsoft VP Terry Myerson recently showed off the retooled Start Menu at Build. It’s not going to be the same one you saw in Windows 7 or Vista. All the same functionality will be there, but Microsoft is integrating a bit of the Metro experience, too. The right-hand pane will feature a selection of your Live Tiles, which will stream updates just like they do on the Start Screen in Windows 8.

So it seems that the time spent in captivity may have somewhat changed the Start Menu, for the better? Only time will tell...
