According to a researcher, North Korean internet has seen outages during the last 24 hours.
Doug Madory, director of Internet analysis at Dyn Research said: “I haven’t seen such a steady beat of routing instability and outages in [North Korean Internet space] before. Usually there are isolated blips, not continuous connectivity problems. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are absorbing some sort of attack presently.”
The news has led to speculation that the outages are in response to the hack of Sony Pictures and is the reaction taken by the U.S.
President Obama promised: “They caused a lot of damage, and we will respond. We will respond proportionally, and we’ll respond in a place and time and manner that we choose.”
But Monday’s issues could also be due to something more mundane, like software problems or a failing router.
