Shaun Bridges, a former U.S. Secret Service Special Agent, was convicted of pilfering $820,000 worth of bitcoin during the investigation of Silk Road.
He received a prison sentence of five years. But now he is accused of pilfering an additional $700,000 worth of bitcoin.
He was a member of the task force that in October 2013 took down Silk Road, an online black market. He had pleaded guilty of obstruction of justice and money laundering for that crime. He is now suspected of two subsequent thefts of bitcoin.
According to the accusations, Bridges is said to have kept a private crypto key. He used that key to acquire an additional $700,000 taken in the Silk Road investigation. Having expertise in the anonymization of account records, he attempted to disguise his identity and obtain false documents.
