The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating the physical attacks on internet cables in the San Francisco area.

FBI agents confirmed that the Tuesday morning attack, one of at least 11 detected by officials, “disrupted Internet service for businesses and residential customers in and around Sacramento, the state's capital," according to a USA Today report.

According to the report, the attack was carried out by a perpetrator who physically cut fiber optic cables. He managed to break into a vault and cut three cables, belonging to companies Level 3 and Zayo.

Internet service provider Wave Broadband confirmed that the attack was a coordinated attack which impacted Wave's Sacramento customers.
