The UK is cracking down on cyber criminals

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 05/16/2015 09:13 AM [ comments Comments ]

The UK has updated the country's Computer Misuse Act earlier this month to allow for a sentence of life in prison.

The new update is rather vague in that it says a person could deserve life in prison if they have committed an “unauthorized act” when they knew it was unauthorized. Further, the person had to know it would cause “serious damage” to “human welfare or to national security. What is also vague is that the person has to be “reckless as to whether such harm was caused.”

The update is vague in that “serious damage” and “national security” aren't clearly defined.

Life in prison is a better deal that a cyber criminal will get in Nigeria. A separate cybercrime law was passed this month that says any attack on critical national infrastructure that causes a death will be sentenced to death through hanging.
