Troubleshoot Process GDI, User Handle Leaks With Bear

Posted by: Jon Ben-Mayor on 04/15/2016 05:17 AM [ comments Comments ]

Bear is designed to allow you to identify and run down GDI and user handle leaks from processes currently running on your machine.

You will quickly ascertain which application leaks GDI/User handles by viewing the details provided for all the properties of the handles such as hDC, hBitmap, hRegion, hPalette, hFont, hBrush as well as usage of user objects, like Wnd, hMenu, hCursor, SetTimer, SetWindowsHookEx, and multiple other parameters. Additionally, for bitmaps, icons and cursors you will be permitted to see and save the real image. It will automatically display information regarding each running process

Bear will also allow you to easily copy/transfer any selected data directly to the clipboard as well as create logs which can be conveniently exported to CSV file format.

On 32 and 64 Bit versions of Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, Server 2012, Server 2008, Server 2003, XP, 2000 and NT4, Bear displays the usage of:

  • All GDI Objects [hDC, hRegion, hBitmap, hPalette, hFont, hBrush]
  • All User Objects [hWnd, hMenu, hCursor, SetWindowsHookEx, SetTimer and some other stuff]
  • Handles
  • Memory pages count and size [LoadLibrary() and LoadLibraryEx(LOAD_LIBRARY_AS_DATAFILE)]

On Windows 98 and 95, Bear displays the usage of:

  • All GDI Objects [hDC, hRegion, hBitmap, hPalette, hFont, hBrush]
  • GDI, System and User Resources
