Twitter deluged with spam and malware

Intent of duping the social networks 200 plus users, Twitter continues to be deluged with spam and malware. Director of Marketing, Dana Tamir, said today the malware is "an active configuration of TorRat" and is being spread by man-in-the-browser attacks.

A series of tweets about everything from Beyonce to the Netherlands King, Willem-Alexander was spotted on some user accounts. Each tweet included a suspicious link assumed to be a malicious website that probably leads to a drive-by download.

Some accounts last year were sending over 150,000 tweets at a time, though Twitter has done a fairly good job of curbing such spam of late. The site now allows users to report unwanted tweets as spam and block users who are peddling suspicious content.
