Yahoo Spied on Users Emails

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 10/05/2016 06:40 AM [ comments Comments ]

Yahoo users are still spinning from the massive data breach. Now comes another shocker. It has been reported that Yahoo provided your personal data to United States intelligence agency when required.

According to a report by Reuters, Yahoo built a secret software program to secretly scan all of its users' emails and provided it to US intelligence officials.

The tool was built in 2015 to provide email info on millions of users at the behest of either the NSA or the FBI. This is thought to be the first time an internet company has complied to an order by a government agency to monitor emails that were either stored or seen in real time.

Its reported that the program was so secretive that even Yahoo's own security personnel didn't know about it. Yahoo's Chief Information Security Officer, Alex Stamos, found out that Yahoo Chief Executive Marissa Mayer has authorized the program and immediately resigned from the company, telling his subordinates that "he had been left out of a decision that hurt users' security."

This comes on the heels of Yahoo's announcement that they had been hacked by a "state-sponsored" cyber attack.
