The Program Can't Start Because bcrypt.dll Is Missing
By Timothy Tibbetts |
Bcrypt.dll is part of the Microsoft Windows Cryptographic Primitives Library, a general purpose, software-based, cryptographic module. BCRYPT.DLL provides cryptographic services in Windows Vista through Windows 10 components and application. Getting a bcrypt.dll error is rare (congratulations) but relatively easy to solve.

We would like to remind you that you should never download a DLL from a third-party website. If you've already searched for an answer to the "bcrypt.dll is missing" error then you probably saw many links to these websites. The problem with them is that the DLL files can be from anywhere and any version of Windows. These websites often buy ads to get you to click-through and do millions of downloads of these mostly useless DLL files.
1: Reinstall the Application
Once in a while, these error messages work, and this is one of those time. Following the error message, it is recommended that you reinstall the program. Reinstalling the program should replace the problematic DLL file and get you running again.
2: Run System File Checker
Microsoft System File Checker is a useful, built-in utility that can scan for, and restore, corrupted files in Windows. It is often used and recommended by techs and advanced users, however, it's relatively simple to use. Here's all you need to know to use System File Checker or Sfc /Scannow.
Open PowerShell or Command Prompt as admin and type in sfc /scannow followed by enter.
3: Reset Windows
Windows 10 users can use Reset their PC by pressing the Windows Key + S, type in reset and click on Reset this PC. Follow the prompts.
4: Scan for Malware
Last, and certainly least, is a slim possibility of malware. This is the go-to answer for a lot of websites, but most people know that a single DLL error is unlikely to be malware. However, if you're DLL problem is only one of a handful of errors and issues, it's worth a try.
Do a complete scan with your antivirus or download a third-party scanner. Our go-to is IObit Malware Fighter or Malwarebytes.
Hopefully, we solved your DLL error. Let us know in the comments if it worked or what did.
