Disable Nvidia Telemetry is a portable freeware app to disable known telemetry services and tasks for anyone with a Nvidia video card.
If you're unfamiliar with Nvidia telemetry, we first reported this when it was discovered, and it's a hot topic as you can see in our story and the comments here. Links to AutoRuns and how to use that to disable for more advanced users is also in that article.
Let's go over what telemetry is regarding Nvidia drivers:
Telemetry is essentially considered spying by many as it is a way to send data back and forth. It's nowhere near that simple, but we'd like to know what it's doing in our video drivers when it's never been needed before.
nVIDIA Wireless Controller requires you have, you guessed it, a nVIDIA Wireless Controller.
ShadowPlay is a way to capture and record gameplay.
We can debate the pros and cons here, but it's been talked about and debated beyond actually being of any help. However, we can offer our opinion if helps. In most cases, telemetry serves a purpose. In the case of Nvidia drivers, Nvidia controllers and ShadowPlay may not work correctly, if at all. It also is used to collect anonymous data to improve their product. It's not like they are stealing your credit card. Personally, I leave mine alone, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be watching them. Privacy is fading away more and more every year so we should be diligent on this.
Finally, note that once executed, Disable Nvidia Telemetry searches for services and tasks that are known to be behind the telemetry and records what it found in the event log tab and displays the results in the main window.
Windows Defender SmartScreen does not recognize Disable Nvidia Telemetry and will block it by default.
Disable Nvidia Telemetry is a simple way to look for, and disable all or part of any telemetry built into your Nvidia drivers. You can do this manually, but only if you know what to look for. This takes the guesswork out of that.
