Police cruiser stolen by a police officer (MUGSHOT)

There has been another police chase involving a police cruiser; this time the cruiser was stolen by a uniformed Fairbury, NE., police officer. The fact that an armed officer was in control of the vehicle had local authorities concerned for the safety of all involved.

According to 1011 HD, authorities in western Nebraska were alerted Saturday afternoon, about a stolen Fairbury Police cruiser, believed to be driven by a uniformed Fairbury Police Officer, 40-year-old Stanly Colby.

North Platte Police Sergeant Jeff Foote said Colby was believed to have been distraught and heading to the McCook area.

Just after 6 p.m. the cruiser was seen near Lexington. A short time later, Colby was seen in North Platte.

According to Lincoln County Chief Deputy Roland Kramer, he was informed at 6:40 p.m. that North Platte Police, Lincoln County Deputies and State Troopers were chasing the stolen police car.

Kramer said during the chase, Colby avoided spike strips used in an attempt to stop the car. Kramer did not know about speeds involved during the pursuit.

Foote said Colby finally stopped and was arrested by several agencies, without incident, about six miles south of North Platte.

This could of all have been avoided if Colby just waited for his shift to begin - bad planning on his part. Colby was taken to the Lincoln County Jail for possession of stolen property. Other charges may be applied at a later time.
