The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active was designed as an almost bullet proof phone; it was supposed to be able to withstand whatever the active person could throw at it, including a dunk in the drink. It doesn't really come as any great surprise that reports are surfacing showing that water and electronics don't really go together.
The real surprise comes from Samsung and AT&T and how they have decided to deal with the problem; instead of blaming the customer, PCMag says Samsung and AT&T are offering a solution instead: Just bring your damaged device into an AT&T retail store and exchange it for a new Galaxy S4 Active - simple.
"Samsung designed and tested the Galaxy S4 Active to adhere to IP67 standards for water resistance (1 meter for 30 minutes)," an AT&T spokesman said in a statement. The carrier did not comment further on the reported issues or why some units appeared to fall short of meeting those standards.
It is very refreshing to have a company stand behind their product and the advertised features rather than blaming you or finding a reason to not honor a return of the product; which I have had happen with various phones in the past, my favorite was when attempting to return my toilet swimming phone the representative actually told me that if it had fallen into a bathtub rather than a toilet it would be able to be exchanged. Now no matter if it goes in the toilet or not - it will always be explained as the bathtub.
I guess using a low tech waterproofing technique like a condom or a ziploc bag really isn't as silly as one thought.
