How to Disable or Enable Timeline in Windows 10

By Timothy Tibbetts

on 06/15/2023

Timeline is a feature that was added to Windows 10 in version 1803. Timeline keeps track of what you're doing, including your browsers, folders, apps, activities, and more. You can stop and resume seamlessly at any time from any device and even sync your activities to the cloud. You can disable or enable Timeline at any time.

We can enable, or disable Timeline in Group Policy Editor, editing the Registry, or using our Registry files. Group Policy is only available in specific Windows editions, including Windows 10 Professional and Enterprise. Windows 10 Home users can enable Group Policy Editor.

1: Disable or Enable Timeline in Registry

Download Disable or Enable Timeline in Windows 10 and extract the two files.

Disable Timeline.reg
Enable Timeline.reg (Default)

Double-click on Disable Timeline.reg or Enable Timeline.reg (Default)

Click Yes when prompted by User Account Control.
Click Yes when prompted by Registry Editor.

Click OK when prompted by the Registry Editor.

This tweak is included as part of MajorGeeks Windows Tweaks.

To manually edit the registry, open the Registry Editor and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System.

Create new DWORD (32-bit Value) called EnableActivityFeed.

Double-click EnableActivityFeed. Value data 0 to disable or 1 to enable Timeline.

2: Disable or Enable Timeline in Group Policy Editor

Open Group Policy Editor and go to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\OS Policies.

Double-click on Enables Activity Feed.

Not Configured or Enabled is the default and Turns Timeline on.
Disabled turns Timeline off.
