5 Ways to Open Group Policy Editor

Many of our guides suggest using Group Policy Editor, a powerful tool for making changes to Windows including many things you usually can't change in the Control Panel. Group Policy Editor is only available in Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise, but Windows 10 Home users can enable it by following a couple of easy steps. In this guide, we show you different ways to open the Group Policy Editor.



1: Run Command

The best and easiest way to open Group Policy Editor is by pressing the Windows Key + R, type in gpedit.msc and press Enter.



2: Windows Search

Press the Windows Key + S, type in and group policy and click on Edit group policy.

3: From Settings

Similar to Step 2, you can go to Start > Settings and begin typing group and click on Edit group policy.



4: With a Shortcut

If you use Group Policy Editor frequently, you can create a shortcut by opening File Explorer and navigate to Windows > System32.

Right-click on gpedit.msc. Now, you can Pin to start, Pin to Taskbar, copy and paste anywhere you like, or Create shortcut, which will put gpedit.msc on your Desktop.



5: Use PowerShell or Command Prompt

Open the Command Prompt or PowerShell as admin and type in gpedit. Group Policy Editor will open in seconds.
