How To Stop iTunes From Automatically Opening
By Timothy Tibbetts |
iTunes is an occasionally necessary evil for those of us who use an iPhone and Windows. We prefer to install iTunes, do what we need to do to sync our music and playlists, then uninstall it. But, if you need iTunes regularly, it's easy to stop iTunes from automatically opening every time you plug in your phone.
By disabling a service called iTunes Helper, we can both stop iTunes from opening automatically and even save system resources.
Our favorite way to get to services is to press CTRL ALT Delete and select Task Manager from the blue screen.
Click on the Startup tab and look for iTunesHelper. Right click on iTunesHelper and choose Disable.
You'll need to reboot so the system can start back up with iTunes Helper disabled.
It's worth noting that you can also disable other items as well as search for what they are and more. There are better ways to manage your startup items, but if you want to disable a single startup item, this is the way to go.
