What is a Troll or Trolling?
By Timothy Tibbetts |
If you've ever read a discussion on the internet, then you've seen trolls. In this article, we explain what troll and trolling mean.
A troll is someone who posts negative comments to get attention and anger other people, and that is known as trolling.
Trolls existed as far back as 1990 on message boards or Bulletin Board Systems (BBS). Being a troll was simpler back then. They used to make posts geared toward new members by using inside jokes.
Trolls are often easily spotted by making posts to anger people, usually by making off-topic comments or engaging people with whom they have nothing in common. Regardless, they enjoy doing it.
It is widely believed that trolls make these posts intending to anger other people and get attention because they are most likely lonely, miserable, weak.
Most of us have engaged with a troll, even if unintentionally. It's easy to get sucked in.
The best way to deal with a troll is to ignore them entirely. It's better for your mental health. As the saying goes, "don't feed the trolls."
