Lunar Client - a Prime Choice for Minecraft Players
If you play Minecraft regularly and care about performance, PvP features, or simply making your character look better, Lunar Client is 100% worth a look. Below we cover what Lunar Client does well, what you need before installing it, and common hiccups. Short version: if you play multiplayer seriously, Lunar Client is hard to beat.
Lunar Client works on top of Minecraft, so you still need a legit install and a valid Microsoft account before anything else.
What Makes Lunar Client a Prime Choice
Lunar Client is a free, performance-focused Minecraft launcher that bundles popular mods, boosts FPS, and adds competitive PvP features without the hassle of manual mod setup.
Lunar Client is popular for a reason. It focuses on performance, competitive features, and polish instead. I would say it doesn't have a bunch of fluff builtin, it does. But the fluff is there for a reason, which boils down to a better user experience.
Performance and stability: Lunar Client is explicitly tuned to squeeze more FPS out of Minecraft. This is especially important on mid-range or older systems, but effective on any system.
Built-in mods without the hassle: No manual mod folders, no version conflicts. Everything is integrated and toggleable in-game. If you have ever tried installing mods manually, you know the pain and will love the ease of this client.
Clean UI that does not fight you: Menus are simple, settings are searchable, and you are not digging through five layers of nonsense to change one option.
Other Features We Love
- FPS boost and memory optimizations
- Zoom, keystrokes, coordinates, and HUD customization
- PvP-focused mods like hitboxes and crosshair tweaks
- Server-approved mod profiles for popular networks
Cosmetics, Skins, and the Lunar Store
Lunar Client has its own built-in store where you can buy cosmetics that work across supported servers, if you are into that sort of customization. Frankly, it's hard to beat Lunar Client for this sort of mod.
- Custom skins and cloaks
- Animated and themed cosmetics
- Icons and profile customization
- Seasonal and limited-time items
These are cosmetic only, no pay-to-win garbage. They make play more fun for you, but give you no competitive advantage. The only implication is for other players to see them; they also need to be using Lunar Client.
Ads, Lunar Plus, and Subscriptions
Lunar Client is ad-supported by default. The ads are there, but they are not intrusive or shoved into gameplay. If you want them gone, Lunar Plus costs $6.99 per month.
Lunar Plus perks include:
- Ad-free experience
- Free cosmetic icons each month
- Exclusive cosmetics
- Discord roles and emotes
- Early or exclusive feature access from time to time
If you play daily, the subscription makes sense. If you log in once a week, you can easliy ignore it.
Download and Install Notes
Before installing, make sure you already have:
- A working Minecraft installation
- A valid Microsoft-linked Minecraft account
- Java properly installed (Lunar usually handles this automatically)
First launch error warning
On first launch, you may see an error like "modpacks not found" or missing assets. This usually happens when the client has not finished downloading all required files. Just chill andcome back. Another tip is to launch Lunar Client as an administrator if the problem persists.
Who Is Lunar Client Good For?
Lunar Client is not for everyone, and that is fine.
Great fit if you:
- Play PvP servers like Hypixel, Mineplex, or similar
- Care about FPS and smooth gameplay
- Want built-in mods without managing files
- Like cosmetics and visual customization
- Want a polished, low-maintenance launcher
Probably not worth it if you:
- Only play single-player vanilla worlds
- Prefer heavy modpacks like Forge or Fabric builds
- Do not care about performance gains or UI tweaks
Geek Verdict
Lunar Client is an S-tier Minecraft launcher built around built-in mods, PvP tools, and cosmetic extras, and for competitive players it delivers what it says it does. The FPS gains are real, the interface is clean, and not having to babysit mod folders or version conflicts is a big win.
That said, the ads can feel a bit heavy at times, especially when you factor in the in-app purchases and the push toward Lunar Plus. But to be fair, ongoing development and server support are not cheap. We at MajorGeeks know this for certain, so we get it.
It is also probably more than you need if you only play casual single-player worlds, but for multiplayer-focused players, it earns its spot.
