Notepad is a popular, yet no-frills text editor that has always been included with Windows. But, Notepad has a few "hidden" tricks. One of those tricks is the ability to add the date and time to your text documents automatically.

If you've never heard of this trick, it's simple, and one you won't forget. It's been built into Notepad since Windows 3.0!

Video tutorial:

Open Notepad and type .LOG on the first line. Make sure you use all uppercase letters (.log won't work).

Type something in and save your document, then open it to see the timestamp.

Every time you update your document, the date and time will be updated.

If you'd like to see the date and time appear only when the document is created, press the F5 key. The date and time will appear on the top.
