How to Disable Unneeded Services in Windows

By Timothy Tibbetts

Disabling services is a little-used way to improve your computer's performance. To get to them, go to your Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

Many of these services you may not need, but are using resources for. Each service has a description and is either started Automatically, Manually, or Disabled. Each item you select will give an explanation to the left of the screen. Better than average computer knowledge is helpful here. If you are not sure you need a particular service, then leave it alone. If you're sure you do not need a service, then disable it. Your best bet is to do this slowly over time, so you can make sure that if something goes wrong, you can easily change it back.

BlackViper.com has a list of services along with what they suggest you do. Use it at your own risk, but it's probably the best services list to be found on the internet. Visit them at https://www.blackviper.com/ and scroll down for your operating system.
