How to Enable Mapped Drives in Elevated PowerShell and Command Prompt

By Timothy Tibbetts

on 06/15/2023

Windows 7, 8, and 10 disable mapped drives by default from an elevated command prompt or elevated PowerShell when UAC is configured to 'Prompt for credentials.' We can bypass the default setting in the Registry.

Advanced users can open the Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Create a new DWORD (32-bit Value) called EnableLinkedConnections.

1 = Enabled
0 or Delete = Enabled.

Everyone can download the registry files, Enable Mapped Drives in Elevated PowerShell and Command Prompt from MajorGeeks.

This tweak is included as part of MajorGeeks Registry Tweaks.
