Some applications require that you run them as an administrator, sometimes referred to as elevated. In this tutorial, we show you all the different ways you can run a program as an Administrator.

We're going to start with the easiest or most common ways that you might use daily.

Video tutorial:

1: Run an App as Administrator With Context Menu

One of the most frequently used methods to run a program as an administrator is to right-click on an app or executable and click Run as administrator.

You can also right-click most applications in your Start Menu, expand more, then click Run as administrator.

2: Run an App as Administrator With Keyboard Shortcuts

One of our favorites, and one that you might not be familiar with, is the keyboard shortcut.

Click on the app you want to run. Press and hold CTRL + Shift, press Enter, and release CTRL + Shift.

3: Run an App as Administrator With Run Dialog

Press the Windows Key + R. Type in whatever you want to run. For example, let's type in cmnd for the Command Prompt=.

Press CTRL + Shift and Enter or CTRL + Shift and click OK

4: Run an App as Administrator With File Explorer

Open File Explorer and click on the executable you want to run as admin.

Click on Run as administrator.

5: Run an App as Administrator With Task Manager

Open Task Manager.

Click on File > Run new task.

Type in the name of the executable and check the box next to Create this task with administrative priveleges.

6: Always Run an App as Administrator With Advanced Properties

Right-click on the app, shortcut, or executable you always want to run as admin and click on Properties.

For shortcuts, click on Advanced. Check the box for Run as administrator.

For apps and executables, click on the Compatibility tab.

Click on OK.
