What Is twain_32.Dll? Is it Malware and How to Fix Errors

Twain_32.dll is a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) file containing information and instructions to work with executables (EXE) files. This DLL is an important part of Windows, allowing multiple programs to share a single DLL file instead of having numerous locations.

Is twain_32.dll a Virus or Malware?

Because twain_32.dll can occasionally give you an error, one might wonder what it is or if it is malware.

Normally, Twain32.dll is not a virus or malware. It should be located in C:\Windows, and be about 64KB in size. If you're unsure about this, or you find twain_32.dll elsewhere, right-click on twain_32.dll and scan with Windows Defender.



Additionally, you should have a twain_32 folder in Windows. It should contain at least one file named wiatwain.ds.

Fixing twain_32.dll Errors

Numerous possibilities exist depending on your error and Windows software. Here are a few places to look.

First, you need to know what application is giving you a twain_32 error. You should know because you'll get the error when running a program or using your printer.

You might need to reinstall the software that is causing the problem. In the case of a printer or scanner, removing and adding it might fix the problem.

Be sure to check for Windows Updates and look for any failed updates. You might also look for Optional Updates and see if anything coincides with your issue.

System File Checker might be able to repair or restore the twain_32.dll file. You should be able to open an elevated command prompt and type in sfc /scannow. If that fails, please follow the instructions here to do a complete scan.

If you know when the error started, you might be able to go back to an earlier Restore Point.

If you have a backup of all your personal files, you might need to reset your computer.
