Skip Silence for Chrome and Firefox allows you to skip over any silent segments within an audio file and more.

It is designed to automatically skip over any silent parts of a video and will work with most websites that use an HTML5 video or audio element to play; this includes YouTube and Instagram.

No more having to manually forward over silence in a tutorial while this extension is installed. We tried to test it on some of Tim's MajorGeeks tutorials, but he doesn't leave a lot of silence... So we had to look elsewhere.

We did find a college lecture to test it on, and it worked as intended. You will need to get used to the jump that almost seems to be an audio error - but that is just the extension bypassing the silence. You can also control playback speed with Skip Silence.
