Skype Classic is the last version (7.41) of Skype released before the new, version 8 interface was released. Be sure to read everything before you proceed.

There are some considerations others are leaving out. For example, Microsoft released this press release:

"At Skype, we take security very seriously.

There was an issue with an older version of the Skype for Windows desktop installer – version 7.40 and lower. The issue was in the program that installs the Skype software – the issue was not in the Skype software itself."

And, according to this tweet, it could cease working whenever they decide.

Microsoft stopped distribution of Skype for Windows (desktop). Could cease to function at any time, beware. Your only option on current Windows 10 machines is Skype UWP.

If you have a newer version of Skype, please uninstall it first.

Finally, this version includes the Bing toolbar and sets your homepage to MSN. Be sure to opt out during installation.
