How to Fix Windows 10 Stuck in Airplane Mode
By Timothy Tibbetts |
Some Windows users have reported that Airplane Mode in Windows 10 is turned on, and they cannot turn it back off. Of course, this means there's no internet. Here are the steps you can try to turn Airplane mode off.
Before we go through the possible steps, we'd reboot the computer if you haven't already.
1: Update Network Drivers
As always, checking for driver updates is tech support 101.
Outdated drivers can be the reason for Airplane Mode issues. You can use a driver updater or go to the manufacturer's website. For more on drivers, see How to Download the Latest Drivers for Windows.
Another option would be to press the Windows Key + R and type in devmgmt.msc to open Device Manager. Find your network adapter and right-click on it and select Update driver.

2: Check or Disable Radio Management Service
Press the Windows Key + R and type in services.msc. Locate Radio Management Service and double-click.
The Startup Type should be Manual, and the Service Staus should be Running. You can click Stop and see if you can turn off the Airplane Mode.
If not, under Startup type, click on the dropdown menu, and change the startup type to Disabled. Under Service Status, click on Stop.

If you need Airplane Mode later, you will need to change this setting back to Manual.
3: Flush the Windows DNS Cache
Begin by opening PowerShell or Command Prompt as administrator.
Close your web browser, or your DNS cache will not be cleared.
Type in ipconfig /flushdns then enter.

You should see a message that says "Windows IP Configuration," followed by "Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache."
4: Try System Settings
Press the Windows Key + S and begin typing, and click on Airplane Mode.
You can also go to Start > Network & Internet > Airplane Mode.

See if you can toggle Airplane mode off.
5: Check for a Physical Switch
Some laptops and tablets might have a physical switch for Airplane Mode. There could even be a key on your keyboard. Have a look around.
Finally, there used to be a registry setting called RadioEnable, but it has since disappeared. If you know how to enable or disable Airplane Mode with the registry, leave a comment below.
