How to Get Full Details About a Windows 10 Installation ISO
By Timothy Tibbetts |
The most common way to install Windows 10 now is by using an ISO file. The ISO format is used almost exclusively to compress large files. In this guide, we look at how to get all the details of Windows 10 installation ISO, including edition, size, build, language, version, and more.
To get started, we need two things:
1: Extract the ISO contents to your hard drive or thumb drive. You can download a free compression app, including Peazip or 7-Zip.
2: Locate Install.wim or Install.esd. Open the Sources folder to see which one you have. If you see x86 (32-bit) and x64 (64-bit) folders, locate the Install.wim or Install.esd in the version you want the information from.
We can now obtain the information we're after by opening a Command Prompt or PowerShell.
1: Locate Your Index Number
First, we need to determine your Index number to proceed and get all the details. Type in the following lines depending on whether you have install.wim, install.exd, and which folder. Replace c:\path with the path to your ISO.
ESD sources folder - dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:c:\path\sources\install.esd
WIM sources folder - dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:c:\path\sources\install.wim
ESD x86 folder - dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:c:\path\x86\sources\install.esd
WIM x86 folder - dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:c:\path\x86\sources\install.wim
ESD x64 folder - dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:c:\path\x64\sources\install.esd
ESD x64 folder - dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:c:\path\x64\sources\install.wim
For example, I am currently using Windows 10 Home, so the Index number I need going forward is 1.
