How to Start Google Chrome in Incognito Mode in Windows 7 and 10
By Timothy Tibbetts |
Google Chrome has a privacy feature called Incognito Mode that disables browsing history, site data, cookies, and any information you type in forms when active. In this tutorial, we show you how to open Incognito Mode automatically with a shortcut.
Video tutorial:
You can start Incognito Mode as needed by pressing Ctrl+Shift+N, or by clicking on the three dots in the top right corner and clicking on New incognito window.
However, if you always prefer Incognito Mode, we can have Google Chrome open it automatically.
We're going to modify the path to your Google Chrome shortcut.
Right-click on your Google Chrome shortcut and click Properties.
Scroll to the end of the Target field and add -incognito at the end after the quotes.
If prompted to provide administrator permission, click Continue.
To easily spot the Incognito shortcut later, click on the General tab and add Incognito at the end.
That allows you to create a second shortcut and have Google Chrome and Google Chrome Incognito side-by-side without having to modify the Properties repeatedly.
Click Start, and drag the Google Chrome shortcut to your Desktop for the second shortcut.
You can also remove -incognito at any time to start Google Chrome in normal mode.
