What Does LOLD Mean?

If you've seen LOLD in your travels, on discussion forums, text messages, or almost anywhere, you might wonder what it means?

LOLD is an acronym for LOL but in the past tense.

LOLD means you LOL (Laughed Out Loud) at something. For example, you might say, "I LOLD too hard at that."

You can use LOL'D or LOLD, but you're most likely to see and use LOLD since acronyms are time-savers, after all.

We've seen numerous other claims that it means something else, like "Laugh Out Loud Doofus," and of course "Loss of Load Duration," but they would be wrong. This one isn't rocket science.

LOLD began with LOL in the early days of communication, including bulletin boards, message boards, and IRC.

Back then, LOL usually meant you were laughing, but today, it rarely means someone is actually laughing out loud now or in the past. Instead, it's a simple acknowledgment that someone said something to you that was intended to be funny. Nowadays, someone might send you a LOL, or LOLD, without cracking a smile.
