What is BootPerformanceView and What Does It Do?

BootPerformanceView offers detailed insights into the performance of your system's boot process, enabling you to analyze and monitor various metrics related to startup efficiency.

BootPerformanceView is a specialized tool designed to extract and display detailed information from the Microsoft-Windows-Diagnostics-Performance/Operational event log. This event log captures critical data regarding the boot performance of Windows operating systems, enabling users to analyze and diagnose boot-related issues effectively.

For each recorded boot performance event, BootPerformanceView provides a comprehensive set of metrics:

● Boot Start Time: The exact time at which the boot process began.
● Boot End Time: The time when the boot process completed.
● Boot Time: The total duration taken to complete the boot process, measured in milliseconds.
● Main Path Boot Time: The time taken for the critical components of the operating system to load, reflecting the efficiency of the boot sequence.
● Kernel Init Time: The duration it takes for the Windows kernel to initialize, which is crucial for system stability and operation.
● Driver Init Time: The time required for all device drivers to load and initialize, impacting hardware functionality during boot.
● Devices Init Time: A measure indicating how long it takes for connected devices to be recognized and initialized by the system.
● Smss Init Time: The time taken to initialize the Session Manager Subsystem (Smss), which is essential for managing system sessions.
● User Profile Processing Time: The duration spent loading and applying user-specific settings during the boot process.

Easy Access to Boot Performance Data

In addition to providing an overview of these metrics, BootPerformanceView allows users to access boot performance information on their local system, query a remote network computer, or load data from an external event log file. This versatility makes it an invaluable resource for IT professionals and system administrators seeking to optimize system performance and effectively troubleshoot boot-related issues.

BootPerformanceView is Portable

BootPerformanceView is a user-friendly tool that does not require installation or additional DLL files. To get started, simply execute the program by running BootPerformanceView.exe.

Upon launching the application, the main window presents detailed boot performance information for the currently running system. If you wish to analyze the boot performance of a different system, navigate to the File menu and select "Choose Data Source" or press F7. From there, you can select the preferred data source, whether it be an external events folder or a remote computer.

BootPerformanceView Supports Command Line Operation Via the Following Options:

● /stext < Filename > Save the boot performance records to a simple text file.
● /stab < Filename > Save the boot performance records to a tab-delimited text file.
● /scomma < Filename > ● /shtml < Filename > Save the boot performance records to HTML5 file (Horizontal).
● /sverhtml < Filename > Save the boot performance records to HTML5 file (Vertical).
● /sxml < Filename > Save the boot performance records to an XML file.
● /sjson < Filename > Save the boot performance records to a JSON file.
● /sort < column > This command-line option can be used with other save options for sorting by the desired column. The parameter can specify the column index (0 for the first column, 1 for the second column, and so on) or the name of the column, like "Record ID" and "Boot Start Time". You can specify the '~' prefix character (e.g, "~Boot Time") if you want to sort in descending order. You can put multiple /sort in the Command-Line if you want to sort by multiple columns.
● /cfg < Config Filename > Start BootPerformanceView with the specified config file.
● /Columns < Comma Delimited Columns List > Allows you to set the columns to display or the columns to export from the Command-Line. You have to specify the column names, delimited by a comma.

Example:
  BootPerformanceView.exe /scomma c:\temp\boot-performance.csv /Columns "Record ID,Boot Start Time,Boot End Time,Boot Time"
You can also specify the column names without space characters.
Example:
  BootPerformanceView.exe /Columns "RecordID,BootStartTime,BootEndTime,BootTime"
