File System Errors typically are caused by a few things, including bad sectors or corrupt files. In this guide, we look at the steps you can take to resolve these errors, including 1073741819, 2018375670, 2147219200, 2147219196, 2147219194, 805305975, to name a few.

1: System Restore

One of the easiest ways to resolve errors is to use System Restore. As always, go back to a point where you know the errors occurred after.

You can get there quickly by pressing the Windows Key + R, type in sysdm.cpl and press Enter. Click on the System Protection tab and then System Restore.

2: Check Disk

Open PowerShell or Command Prompt as admin.

Type in chkdsk C: /f assuming C: is your primary drive, otherwise, replace that with your drive letter.

Close all open programs and reboot for Check Disk to run.

3: System File Checker

Open PowerShell or Command Prompt as admin.

Type in sfc /scannow and reboot after the scan completes.

4: DISM

Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool is often a requirement before running System File Checker. DISM will use Windows Update to provide any files that are needed to fix corruption. If you skip this step, System File Checker might not work.

You will need to first open the Command Prompt or PowerShell as administrator.

Type in DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and press enter. This may take five minutes or more.

System File Checker, in most cases, should work now. If not, type in the following three lines and press enter after each. When completed, reboot. The first step is quick, and the second and third steps could take some time.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

5: Failing Hard Drive

A hard drive with bad sectors could also cause these errors. Your best bet here is to go to your drive manufacturers website and download their drive management tool. Most of these tools can very quickly identify the hard drive's current health or other problems.

We have many of these utilities listed on MajorGeeks - HDD Tools and SSD Tools
