How to Add or Remove 'Turn off hard disk after' from Power Options
By Timothy Tibbetts |
Advanced Power Options allows you to change when your hard drive powers down. If you have a laptop or tablet, you have two options; plugged in and on battery. You can hide this option so people can't change it. Here's how.
Note that this will work on both internal and external hard drives but not SSD and NVMe drives.
Here's a before and after:
Add or Remove Turn off hard disk after in PowerShell
Powershell makes this simple.
Open PowerShell as Admin and type in the following lines:
Remove - powercfg -attributes SUB_DISK 6738e2c4-e8a5-4a42-b16a-e040e769756e +ATTRIB_HIDE
Add- powercfg -attributes SUB_DISK 6738e2c4-e8a5-4a42-b16a-e040e769756e -ATTRIB_HIDE
Add or Remove Turn off hard disk after With Registry Files
Download Add or Remove 'Turn off hard disk after' from Power Options, and extract the two files:
Remove Turn Off Hard Disk Power Option.reg
Add Turn Off Hard Disk Power Option.reg (Default)
Double-click Remove Turn Off Hard Disk Power Option.reg or Add Turn Off Hard Disk Power Option.reg to enable or disable Disable Automatic Maintenance in Windows 10.
Click Yes when prompted by User Account Control.
Click Yes when prompted by Registry Editor.
Click OK when prompted by the Registry Editor.
