Oculus Rift - Your Antivirus Software Blocked Installation
By Timothy Tibbetts |
Recently, while installing Asgard's Wrath, we received an error message that our antivirus blocked the installation. We've also had reports of other Oculus game downloads with the same error. The fix should be simple - here's how to get your game installed.
It appears that this error can appear with any Oculus Game, including Asgard's Wrath, Bigscreen, The Walking Dead, The Under Presents, Blade & Sorcery, Stormlands, Lucky's Tales, and more.
For some reason, Oculus services are running, which, when closed, allows the download to complete. We found it easier to reboot because that ends the Services that are causing the problem. When we closed the services (which works for many people), our download said verifying download, then restarted and continued to loop, and never completed. All three steps have worked for us at different times.
Before you start, please disable your antivirus until the problem is resolved by following one of these three steps or watching the video below.
Video tutorial:
1: Reboot or End Processes
You can reboot or end Oculus processes.
Reboot
If you can reboot, try that first. As simple as this might sound, you'd be amazed at how many times a reboot solves a problem.
Start the Oculus app and try your download again. If you don't want to reboot, you can end the Oculus processes.
End Oculus Services
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
Right-click or click on the following services and click on End task.
Continue to close all the following services until they no longer restart:
Oculus Dash
OVR Redir
OVR Service Launcher
OVRServer_x64.exe
Restart Oculus and see if the game downloads now.
Restart the Oculus app and try your download again.
2: Repair Oculus Software
Expect this step to take some time, maybe 20 minutes.
Open File Explorer and go to C:\Program Files\Oculus. Double-click OculusSetup.exe.
Select Repair and follow the prompts.
