Windows 10 will automatically reboot during a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), not allowing you time to write down the error code. This tutorial will show you how to disable the automatic reboot when a Blue Screen appears.

You can enable or disable BSOD auto restart by using registry files, System Properties, or the Command Prompt.

1: Enable or Disable Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Auto Restart - Registry Files

Download Enable or Disable BSOD Auto Restart and extract the two files.

Double-click 'BSOD Automatic Restart - Disable.reg' or 'BSOD Automatic Restart - Enable.reg' (Default).

Click Yes when prompted by User Account Control.
Click Yes when prompted by Registry Editor.

Click OK when prompted by the Registry Editor.

This tweak is included as part of MajorGeeks Windows Tweaks.

2: Enable or Disable Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Auto Restart - System Properties

Press the Windows Key + R, type in SystemPropertiesAdvanced.exe and press Enter.

Click on Settings under Startup and Recovery.

Uncheck Automatically restart.

Verify Active memory dump is selected under Write debugging information.

3: Enable or Disable Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Auto Restart - Command Prompt

Open PowerShell or the Command Prompt.

Disable automatic restart - wmic RecoverOS set AutoReboot = False
Enable automatic restart - wmic RecoverOS set AutoReboot = True
