All hard drives have a serial number to help you identify your hard drive, often for warranty purposes. Here's how to find your hard drive serial number.

Video tutorial:

1: How to Find Your Hard Drive Serial Number - On the Drive

The most obvious place to look is on the hard drive itself. While they can vary slightly, it's typically a long number, near a bar code and after S/N or serial number.

2: How to Find Your Hard Drive Serial Number - Command Prompt or PowerShell

Of course, you might not be able to find the serial number nor want to open your computer to access your hard drive. Laptops and all-in-one computers are something the average user rarely, if ever, opens. We can find your information from the Command Prompt.

Open the Command Prompt or PowerShell.

For Command Prompt Or Powershell, type in:

wmic diskdrive get model,name,serialnumber

For Powershell, type in:

Get-WMIObject win32_physicalmedia | Format-List Tag,SerialNumber

You should see the serial number for all attached drives.
