Anytime you add a printer, a specific name is assigned to that printer. If you like, you can rename a printer to anything you want.

Before you start, if you rename a networked printer, that printer will no longer work, and you will have to connect it again.

Video tutorial:

Rename a Printer in Windows 10 & 11 in Settings

Click on Start > Settings Devices > Printers & scanners.

Click on the printer you want to rename.

Click on Manage.

Click on Printer properties.

Next to the printer icon, you will see the printer's name. HP ENVY 5660 series [3F0163] is the example in the screenshot below.

Change the name to anything you like.

Click on OK.

Rename a Printer in Windows 10 & 11 in PowerShell

Open PowerShell as an administrator.

Find your printer name by typing in Get-Printer | Format-List Name

To rename the printer type in Rename-Printer -Name "Current printer name" -NewName "New printer name"

Replace "Current printer name" and "New printer name" including quotes.
