If you're debating whether to upgrade to Windows 10 21H1 May 2021 Update, here's all you need to know.

Whenever a Feature Update appears on Windows 10, which is typical twice a year, you hear many pros and cons about upgrading. One problem with updating is that many of your Windows 10 settings may be reverted, and Windows 10 may add built-in features back that you removed. This is especially true of third-party apps or tweaks you may have applied with MajorGeeks Windows Tweaks, for example.

The following options work anytime you want to update Windows 10.

How to NOT Update to Windows 10 21H1 (May 2021)

You can always pause Windows Updates, but that's a temporary solution with the built-in Windows 10 options.

A better option is to use the free StopUpdates10. It's easy to use, and we have a video tutorial available.

How to Update to Windows 10 21H1 (May 2021)

Video tutorial:

There are three ways to update your Windows 10.

1: Wait for Windows Updates

If you don't see the update in Windows Updates, there might be a good reason. Often, Microsoft will hold back updates if you have hardware with a known issue. The most common problems are driver issues with certain hardware and are usually resolved within a few weeks.

2: Use the Microsoft Media Creation Tool

The Microsoft Media Creation Tool is free and portable. It walks you through the upgrade step-by-step and is easy to use for any skill level.

3: Download an ISO image

The Media Creation Tool also offers to download the ISO image, which brings us to option 2. You can burn the ISO to a thumb drive or extract the files on your hard drive and run setup.exe.

You can even run the setup from the drive you're installing to.

You can also download the ISO files directly in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge with a little-known trick.
